Stuff We Love: Allergy-Friendly Chocolates

Happy day-after-Valentine's-day, the day when your Facebook feed is filled with pictures of last night's roses, chocolates, smooshy cards, and other (nauseatingly) cute manifestations of love. But no judgements, we posted pictures too (I had to—Tanya made me the most amazing allergy-friendly tiramisu that we'll be sharing later this week)!

So the question more important than "what did you do" is "what did you eat?" Did you go out to dinner or did you eat in? We eat in—Tanya's food is the only gift I'll ever need!—and it's always relaxing and delicious and generally wonderful.

I don't know about you, but my Valentine's Day isn't complete without a little bit lot of chocolate. This year, Tanya surprised me with not one but three amazing, totally normal tasting, ridiculously awesome chocolates.

1. Emmy's Chocolate Sauce: Gluten Free, Vegan, Organic, Raw, Non-GMO



Words cannot describe how incredible this stuff is. I'm so serious. It tastes like the super-bad-for-you ice cream topping that you kept in the fridge as a kid, except that it only has four ingredients. Four. Agave, cacao, vanilla, crystal salt, and absolutely nothing else. Mind (and taste buds) = blown. Try it as a dip for cookies, strawberries, marshmallows, or as an ice cream topping. We got it from Whole Foods, but you can also order from their website (and check out their other offerings, like super fudge and even cereal!).


2. Chocolate Truffles from Premium Chocolatiers: Gluten Free, Nut Free, Vegan




The one thing I miss this time of year is the boxed chocolates. Yeah it's cliché, but it's also iconic and normal (and you know, sometimes all I want is a little taste of normal). This is another treat that tastes exactly like it should—no one would know the difference. We tried the strawberry and the creme center is perfect; much like something I remember from my non-allergy past. I can't wait to try more (mint please!).


3. No Whey! Candy Bites from Premium Chocolatiers: Gluten Free, Tree Nut Free, Peanut Free, Vegan




Premium Chocolatiers did it again with their Milky Way-esque candy bites: nougat and caramel, covered in a chocolate shell. These are not quite the same as the traditional candy—it's not as chewy and dense, but light and airy like a 3 Musketeers. I. Love. Them. As someone who hasn't had an actual candy bar in years, I love them. We're going to need more, ASAP. They have Mini Peanot (peanut-free) Cups too, which sounds like the making of some really good cookies, if you ask me.

  1. This post caused me to run upstairs and nab some of the client Dagoba dark chocolate ;) I could not live with my AlterEco 85% Dark Chocolate bars (organic and fairly-traded - two things that are VERY important to me when I buy chocolate) as well as my Gnosis raw chocolate bars.
